Set To Drop: Nike Air Foamposite One “Black Anthracite”

Nike made it practically impossible to not fall in love with the Foamposite. Genius marketing turned a silent assassin into a household name. Back in 1997, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway was emerging as one of the NBA’s brightest stars in the league. But it was the hilarious collection of ‘Lil penny’ commercials that had my eyes glued to the tube. Comedian powerhouse Chris Rock played the tiny figurine, whose main objective is to say and do everything the real “Penny” doesn’t do. Once the Foamposite One was released, it definitely was and still is considered a game-changer.

Behind the Design

The idea of ‘Foamposite’ anything was foreign to the sneaker industry at the time. In fact, Penny was the first to have a shoe that features such as innovative technology. Today, the colorways released using this vary silhouette feels endless. It was a pleasant surprise to have “Anthracite” make a comeback. First released back in 2007, the colorway had a hiatus from store shelves despite a successful Quickstrike.

This upcoming release followed the original blueprint, giving the new generation sneakerhead an opportunity to cop the notorious “Blackout” versions. Fitting to the nickname, the shoe is dressed in an assortment of Black and Anthracite combined. The shimmering Black shell is still wavy as ever. The outsole immediately underneath is sturdy with round rubber pockets for extensive grip. Suede outlines the eyestay, with mesh covering the collar and lining inside. Last but definitely not least accents of the mini check are spotted near the toe box, with ‘1 cent’ stamped on the mustache and outsole.
