The Air Jordan 2 “Chicago” Returns in OG Form

The Air Jordan 2 is one of the most divisive sneakers in Jordan Brand’s lineup – it has been since its release in 1986. It’s well-known sneaker lore that Michael Jordan hated the shoe. Hell, it almost caused him to end his relationship with Nike entirely. And, as if that weren’t bad enough, the shoe didn’t sell particularly well, either. Fans of Jordan’s first signature model found that its successor lacked clear branding and looked bulky by comparison.

That’s not to say that the Air Jordan 2 didn’t have its fans – it certainly did then and still does today. Case in point, Jordan's second signature model is enjoying its long-awaited time in the sun thanks in part to a slew of high-profile collaborations with the likes of Off White, A Ma Maniere, and J Balvin. And that sun soaking is set to continue with the upcoming Air Jordan 2 Retro OG “Chicago” rerelease, set to land later this month.

This upcoming retro release stays true to the original ’86 design. It features a smooth white leather upper with tonal python-inspired leather panels. The pristine base is contrasted with bright “Varsity Red” TPU heel panels and Wings-logo tongue stamps.

This throwback makeup features rubber midsole units done in black, which match the sneaker’s laces. The midsoles house full-length Air units and come cemented to rubber outsoles done in white, black, and “Varsity Red.”

The Air Jordan 2 Retro OG “Chicago” will be available on DTLR.com and DTLR stores on December 30th in full-family sizing.
