First Look: Exclusive New Balance 'Greek Gods'
Published:June 04, 2020
In 2019, New Balance and DTLR armed DMV athletic warriors with footwear fitting for the gods: M997 Perseus and M997 Sport Medusa. According to Greek mythology, the demigod Perseus slew the gorgon Medusa at the request of the King. Of course, this was a death mission, with no expectation of his return. However, Perseus prevailed, thus fulfilling the oracle and neutralizing all adversaries in his path.
True to its name, the M997 Perseus is here to slay the competition. The sneaker features a Black and Cool Grey suede upper with 3M iridescent trim, a snakeskin “N” logo, and black laces.
Medusa held her own power: a fabled goddess whose beauty was undeniable by mortal men. A beauty so coveted, she was cursed with the power to turn all who dared to gaze up her to stone. A power so strong, Perseus wielded her image on his shield to help defeat his enemies. As a mood to the Gorgon guardian, a weapon within himself, the New Balance 997 Medusa stops the competition in its tracks with a single gaze. The Medusa deflects the haters with the power retained in its classic construction and enticing M997 Sport colorway. It sports a two-tone Grey suede upper and perforated toe, 3M iridescent trim, Yellow “N” logo, and yellow laces.
With the vindictiveness of Perseus and the stone coldness of Medusa, the 997 is the fulfillment prophecy: the product of a powerful sneaker god coupled with the creative vision of mortal man.
