Behind the Sneaker: Air Jordan Retro 9 “Gym Red”

A Retro colorway for a Retro sneaker.

Ever since I laid my eyes on an Air Jordan Retro card, I never looked back. Like a times table, I used to stare at the shoe design, colorway, and number to memorize them in my head. Before you knew it, I memorized all of the main retro releases and was ready to buy every pair (at least that was the goal).

As time went on, I’ve started to really grow an appreciation for alternate colorways. One of my favorite colorways MJ never wore is the Air Jordan Retro 9 “Gym Red”. Sticking with tradition, red, black, and white are the colors of choice for such an iconic silhouette. White leather is the main fabric, with shiny red patent leather overlays giving the shoe some shock value. Black accents are found on the heel pulls, shoelace tags, and on Jordan branding. It’s safe to say that Red October has come early this year!
