An Updated Take On A Classic: Air Jordan 12 'Utility'

I was in the 8th grade when my father graciously drove my friend and me before school to a local retailer where we stood in line for the latest Air Jordan release, the Black and Red 12’s. While it was 24 years ago, I still remember it like it was yesterday. The thrill of skipping the first period to cop the latest release was everything back then. To be able to rock ‘em at school on the day they released meant two things. One, you were pretty cool and two so were your parents. While the Air Jordan 12 “Utility” reminds me of my original pair of 12’s it certainly has a mix of upgraded and recycled materials.

Coated in All-Black, the Air Jordan 12 Retro Utility boasts a bold look. The uppers are comprised of Black tumbled leather highlighted by the famous vertical stitching the 12’s are known for, also in Black. Black Suede panels extend back from the toe on both the outside and inside of the pair. The rubber tag that reads JUMPMAN is also Black with Bright Crimson piping giving just about the only pop of color on the entire shoe. The midsole and sole are a crazy combination of what appears to be a reptile skin-like pattern for the midsole and recycled materials known as Nike Grind for the sole. Finishing off the pair, we’ve got a Black mesh tongue featuring the Jumpman logo in Black with an underlay of Bright Crimson and Black pull tabs on the heel with another stealth Jumpman symbol also in Black. Overall this pair looks extremely clean and allows the premium materials to do all the talking.

The Air Jordan Retro 12 Utility releases Saturday, August 21st in men’s sizing for $190. With the rise in popularity of the 12’s combined with it being a true basketball shoe and with the addition of Nike Grind recycled materials, these will not last long!
