Scottie Pippen Dunk Over Patrick Ewing

Behind the Design

If you don't recall when of the most disrespectful moments in Basketball, this Air More Uptempo is here to remind you. The moment occurred when Chicago Bulls' Scottie Pippen completely bossed New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing.

During Game 6 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Pippen was met at the rim by Ewing after cutting through the lane and receiving a sharp pass from Pete Myers. Pippen made it look too easy when he threw down one of the craziest dunks on Ewing. If that wasn't bad enough, he then walked over Ewing while he royally looked down at him.

So, what does that have to do with the Air More Uptempo design story? The comedy here is Pippen wasn't even wearing the shoe when the dunk occurred. But petty is a big sister to the game of Basketball and Nike decided to use the silhouette to pay homage to the Dunk. It's inspired by the Knicks with the mix of white, royal and orange. The block-style number '33' embroidery lays on the heels and a silhouette of Pippen dunking over Ewing is printed along the insoles. Wow!
