Pairing up for their 13th collaboration, meet the Nike OHSU Doernbecher Freestyle Collection 2016. The program invites patients from the hospital to design footwear and apparel, allowing their creative impulse to shine. This year, six children brought their own personality to life by designing some of Nike's most iconic silhouettes including the Air Jordan 7, the Air Max Zero, the Stefan Janoski Max, the Kyrie 2, and the Air Huarache Ultra. This silhouette was designed by Chase, aka 'The Captain.' This 14-year-old is known to take charge, hence the awesome nickname. Witty and brilliant, Chase is planning on pursing a doctorate in neuropsychology and design websites as a hobby. Chase wanted to design this sneaker with great detail. Under the shoelaces, tubing runs all the way to the sockliner to represent the shunt that he has had since birth to treat hydrocephalus. He was diagnosed in utero with the condition, which causes dangerous accumulation of fluid around the brain. Chase has a thing for lighthouses, so he designed one on the heel using the Nike swoosh as the light beam. And on the tongue, the words ‘Unstoppable Chase’ speak to his unbelievable perseverance. The Nike Air Max Zero QS Grade-School 'Doernbecher Collection' (Blue/Green) is Available now!
